Minotaurs

Primordant minotaurs are smaller than the traditional beasts that populate the prime material, an evolutionary step away from the bestial rage and fury toward inward contemplation and fellowship.

Physical Description: Minotaurs are muscular bipeds, humanoids with the head and physical features of a bull. Males sport horns, some curved forward, some branched to the sides, and they are usually adorned and a source of pride. Females have no horns, and tend toward softer brown and tan hide colors, whereas the males are darker bordering on black. Facial features approximate that of bulls and cows, with more human characteristics to the eyes, nose and mouth. Clothing is simple and utilitarian, with ornamentation kept to jewelry, belts, and sashes.

Society: Minotaurs are generally tribal and nomadic, populating temporary camps as they follow herds for hunting. There are a few camps that are closer to permanent, with religious or societal importance as meeting and worship sites. Leadership for minotaurs is often by might, though the past decades have seen many prominent rulers of tribes and larger clans chosen for their intelligence and foresight.

Relations: Minotaurs are highly suspicious of arcane spell users, and do not treat well with cyclopts. They tolerate most other humanoid races unless threatened, in which case they are prone to flee or fight. Of the humans, they are closest with the Saunea, understanding their affinity to the natural world and more accepting of their lifestyles.

Alignment and Religion: Minotaurs are predominantly neutral animists, seeing spirituality in the animals and natural world around them representing the multiple facets of gods that lack empathy for a world that is simply the natural progression of life to death and birth anew.

Keen Senses: Minotaurs have heightened hearing and smell and gain a +2 racial bonus to Perception checks.

Special Abilities: Although minotaurs are not especially intelligent, they possess innate cunning and logical ability. This gives them immunity to maze spells and prevents them from ever becoming lost. Further, they are never caught flat-footed.

Yeralt
Minotaurs dwelling underground, the yeralt have evolved differently from their surface-dwelling kin.

Physical Description: Yeralt minotaurs are similar to their surface dwelling brethren in size and strength, yet coloration is usually pale white or inky black. Clothing and accesories tend toward stealth and silence, and avoids distraction to the senses.

Society: Yeralt are city dwellers, making towns and villages and even metropolis-sized communities in caverns and cave complexes. They are capable builders, masons, and engineers. Leadership is usually through councils or similar group consensus. Wisdom is valued highest of most leadership qualities.

Relations: Yeralt share the prejudice against spell-casters as those in the world-above do. They are decent in their relationships with other underworld races such as lizard men or ettercaps where there are no open hostilities, and are wary of goblins, bugbears, gnolls and similar folk who tend to be voilent and unpredictable.

Alignment and Religion: Yeralt are earth worshippers, usually kneeling to Shebelloth or the underdwelling minotaur pantheon.
